To become a walking qualified guide takes several years of training and many of the top guides have grown up in the areas where they operate and so know the terrain, animals and plants better than anyone else.
“We often get asked what a walking safari entails, as many people think it is a grueling march where you have to carry your own equipment, but nothing could be further from the truth,” explains Shaun.
“There are several ways guests can experience a walking safari. For someone looking for an introduction, they could try a two to three-hour walk directly from their lodge or camp while for someone looking for a more in-depth experience, they could walk between luxury safari camps,” says Shaun.
“When it comes to those looking for the ultimate walking safari, there are multi-day walks, staying in rustic mobile or fly-camps. All equipment is transferred by vehicle and the tents and cooking is all done by the camp staff, so all you need to do is walk and enjoy the experience.”
