Experience an African Safari like no other, on this unique walking safari offered by Stanley Safaris.

South African-based specialist tour operator Stanley Safaris has added a new walking safari through Mana Pools in Zimbabwe to its safari offering.

Renowned as one of the best walking safari destinations in Africa, Mana Pools is home to some incredible wildlife that has become more habituated to seeing people on foot and so tend to be a little more relaxed, allowing for some exciting encounters.

On this seven-night safari, guests start inland at beautiful Kanga Camp before heading to the Zambezi River. The walking safari continues downriver, staying at a mix of mobile and luxury camps along the way, ending at Nyamatusi Camp for the last two nights of luxury.

On this walking safari guests experience the finer details of the African bush, learning about the plants, ecosystems, animal tracks and other small tell-tail signs of animals having passed through. For people looking for an authentic safari experience, this is the safari for you.

Stanley Safaris designs bespoke, luxury safaris to some of Africa’s most pristine wildlife areas. With a strong focus on guest experience, conservation and community, it only works with small, privately owned safari lodges where it knows guests will be well looked after.

Stanley Safaris founder Shaun Stanley has been exploring Africa for over 40-years and knows every corner of this vast continent, making him the expert when it comes to designing safaris.

According to Shaun, a walking safari is one of the purest ways to experience the African wilderness…

“Being at ground level with lion, elephants and buffalo awakens the senses and you can smell, hear and see things you would have missed if you were on the back of a safari vehicle,” says Shaun.

“Seeing fresh lion tracks and knowing the pride is potentially watching you certainly gets the heart racing, but knowing you are in the hands of some of Africa’s best guides quickly puts you at ease,” he adds.

To become a walking qualified guide takes several years of training and many of the top guides have grown up in the areas where they operate and so know the terrain, animals and plants better than anyone else.

“We often get asked what a walking safari entails, as many people think it is a grueling march where you have to carry your own equipment, but nothing could be further from the truth,” explains Shaun.

“There are several ways guests can experience a walking safari. For someone looking for an introduction, they could try a two to three-hour walk directly from their lodge or camp while for someone looking for a more in-depth experience, they could walk between luxury safari camps,” says Shaun.

“When it comes to those looking for the ultimate walking safari, there are multi-day walks, staying in rustic mobile or fly-camps. All equipment is transferred by vehicle and the tents and cooking is all done by the camp staff, so all you need to do is walk and enjoy the experience.”
